  • Overview


    The After Hours Hospice Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) is responsible to provide night, weekend and/or holiday telephone coverage during assigned shifts for hospice patients among the hospice affiliates. Provides high quality care that is consistent with patient/family goals of care. Ensures the hospice plan of care is maintained for hospice patients throughout the described coverage period.


    • Master's degree in nursing
    • ARNP certification recognized by CMS; certification in their discipline an organization recognized by CMS and the state of Florida.
    • Current DEA license
    • Licensed to work as ARNP in the State of Florida
    • Current DEA number prior to beginning employment
    • Eligible for malpractice coverage under the Company's policy terms
    • Knowledge and experience in palliative medical practice and symptom management
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Basic computer skills including use of email and word processing (Microsoft Outlook and Word or equivalent programs)
    • Ability to manage the emotional stress of working with and caring for terminally ill patients and their families
    • Ability to prioritize, triage, and manage clinical calls and information provided

      • Job Responsibilities: 
      • Work collaboratively with the entire interdisciplinary group, fostering collaborative relationships in the provision of high quality, cost-effective palliative care to hospice patients.
      • Be available by phone for any clinical staff calls; including Hospice House or Hospice Help 24 during assigned shifts.
    • Work with collaborating Physician(s) to assure high quality interdisciplinary care is provided to hospice patients.
    • Maintain high quality, timely clinical documentation.
    • Appropriately prescribe pharmacologic agents to assure that patient medical needs are met.
    • Respond to request of change in patient condition, resulting in level of care change that requires transfer in or out of general inpatient (GIP) setting; hospice house or contract hospital, or need for continuous home care.
    • Provide telephone medical coverage for all hospice patients, including those whose non-hospice attending physician cannot be reached.
    • Communicate appropriate clinical information to appropriate person(s) at the completion of shift.
    • Provide consultative care of patients admitted to the hospice whose referring physician desires such services.
    • Lead specific projects as directed by the Staffing Services Manager, Medical Director, or Corporate Medical Services.
    • Participate in medical reviews, as needed, and directed by the Medical Director or other Physician.
    • Clinical/Supervision:


    • Act as a liaison and consultant to the attending physician and other members of the interdisciplinary group, as needed.
    • Educate Company staff, as needed, to promote high quality interdisciplinary care.
    • Attend Company Medical Staff meetings regularly.
    • Participate in relevant Company committees.
    • Represent Company at appropriate local, state, national and international forums.
    • Work cooperatively with the Medical Director/Physician to ensure quality care delivery to all patients.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
